My Favorite Things!

Hey everyone!  I am so excited to be able to participate in the biggest and best giveaway of the season.  I'm collaborating with some amazing blogger friends to share our favorite things.

Here are some of MY favorite things:

Favorite Restaurant:

I LOVE Macayo's!  Our family takes bike rides to Macayo's for a fun night out.  Our kids always ask to come here on special occasions.  When I think of Macayo's,  I am reminded of the great memories that my family has made here!  I also think of the great food that makes me so happy.  :)

Favorite Lotion/Stress Reliever:

I love the aromatherapy lotions and pillow spray from Bath & Body Works.  I use it on a daily basis and order them every time there's a sale online.  It makes me feel calm and relaxed.  Who wouldn't love that after a long day of work!?!  Bath & Body Works makes a bunch of different kinds.  Check them out {HERE}.

Favorite EASY Recipe:

My kids absolutely love the muddy chex mix that I make around the holidays.  They ask for it every year around this time.  It's a family favorite for sure.  Oh, and it's incredibly easy to make.  I always make more when I know we're having friends over.  Give gifts to your coworkers by putting this recipe into cute holiday decorated mason jars!

My Most Favorite Thing:

I am donating a $25 gift card to Massage Envy in this awesome giveaway.

Halloween Math Game

I love this time of year when all the fun holidays begin, which means great themes in the classroom!  As we approach Halloween, I'm incorporating more themes into our math & reading centers.  One game that I've used is "1,2,3 FLIP!"  This is also known as "War."  Teaching kindergarten, I keep everything positive, so we call the game "1,2,3 FLIP!"  The objective is to compare numbers by flipping your top card.  I used ten frames 0-10 and the numerals 0-10.  Each person has a set of cards that are the same color.

I made this game to hit the kindergarten standard of comparing numbers 0-10.  Kids love to play games and most like a little competition, so I thought this would be a great & easy way to incorporate all of the above in my classroom.

I'm always on the look out for engaging & meaningful games to use in my centers that also don't take a TON of prep time.

Before bringing a new game into my classroom, I always like to test it out on my own kids at home.  I have a 1st grader and a preschooler, so it's a perfect combination to see how my classroom kiddos would play the game.  I can quickly see if it's too easy, too hard, or just boring!  Ha.

Here is what I discovered.  My 1st grader LOVED the game and my preschooler not so much.  In fact, she gave up at one point.  She didn't like the fact that her sister knew the numbers quickly and that she kept winning.

This is when I realized that this game can be played with just one person too, in case someone quits :)!

My first grader gave the game 2 thumbs up and my preschooler went and took a nap.  I think I'll play with her next time.

I made 4 different sets of cards:
Pumpkins, Monsters, Mummy/Ghosts, and Bats/Spiders

Who's Who Blog Hop!

Hey everyone!  Happy Labor Day weekend!!

I'm Amy & I'm part of the Who's Who Blog Hop. I'm here to share my tips of how to get your kids to work together.

Tip # 1:  Have a classroom incentive. In my kindergarten class we have a bucket where I add colorful pom poms every time my class does something great as a whole.

I read this book at the beginning of every year and start my classroom bucket.

*Ways to get the bucket filled:
*coming to the carpet before I count down to 0
*getting to work right away
*working hard as a class
*working hard in small groups
*getting a class compliment from other teachers OR the principal
*walking great in line

When the bucket gets filled they earn an ice cream party or whatever works for your class... maybe a popcorn/movie day?

Tip #2:  Have Table Captains.  This person is in charge of their tables.  They need to make sure it is clean and ready for the next activity.

Tip #3: Have classroom jobs.  I have 8 different jobs each week.  The kids help take care of all the moving pieces of our classroom.  They feel important in their roles and take them seriously!  This builds a sense of belonging in the classroom.
*Door Holder
*Line Leader
*Lunch Helper
*Pledge Leader
*Paper Passer
*Teacher Helper
*Calendar Helper

Here's a FREEBIE to use in your whole group reading.  I use it in my kindergarten classroom as a learning tool & a way to get my kids to work together to finish the game.

The game is called "I Have, Who Has?"

Check out my TPT store for a one day sale!

Classroom Theme

Summer is coming to an end right before my eyes!  I'm now thinking about my new classroom and what box or wall I'm going to tackle first.  Yikes!  While waiting for my classroom to let me in, I'm creating things in my head & on the computer to make the best classroom I can.

I'm so lucky to be part of the best kindergarten team ever.  We just get along so perfectly and have such respect for each other.  Well, this year we decided to go with a superhero theme as a collaborative team.  I'm so excited!  I know it's a lot of work to change your classroom decor every year, but it's so worth it. It's also fun when your whole team is on board and just as excited as you are.

I've been working really hard on things to include in my classroom this year.  Here's a sneak peek at the new classroom rules that I'll be posting.  Grab them {here} if you want!  I bought the frames for $1 at IKEA. Can't beat that, right?

Here's a picture of my super helper chart that I'll be using this year.  My plan is to use clothes pins with their faces on them, so it's easy to see who has which job for the week.

I just got my superhero contact paper to cover some of the cabinets in my classroom.  Ordered on & arrived 1 day later thanks to Amazon Prime! Can't wait to see what it's all going to look like.

You can find my whole superhero theme pack here:

More pictures to come!!

Dollar Tree!

Okay, so I'm one of those teachers who really never stops thinking about school.  I think about how I can organize and change things up for the new school year.  I've been working on A LOT of projects this summer, while also trying to squeeze in fun time.  Man, is that tricky!!

Well, today we ventured into The Dollar Tree!  I promised my kids that I would get them a little toy.  I know whatever they pick out won't cost me an arm and a leg. Ha!  I became the cool mom today when I allowed each kid to get 2 things.  Man, were they excited.  I heard one of them say as we were leaving, "I love that store"!
Here's why I love the Dollar Tree:
I seriously get excited when I see these in the store.  My mind goes crazy thinking about all the possibilities!

I'm pretty sure my school closet is filled with these!
I always need googly eyes.  I love the colorful ones here!
I am obsessed with these!  They hold a deck of cards perfectly.  Very kid friendly!!

I love the grips on these.  They're perfect for the kids lunches.

I know I'll put my new things to good use!  I forgot to get my little white board erasers (facial scrubbers 3 pack) for my class, so I'll be back for more! If you have any must haves from The Dollar Tree let me know!
